The 5th CSR engagement that employees of the Bank took part was an activity with Beyond Social Services (BSS).
On 10 October, four of our staff spent the day with T-Net Club, an activity centre run by BSS. The centre is located in the matured Redhill estate, one of Singapore's foremost housing areas of the seventies. The centre caters to children from the lower strata of society - those from financially less-well-to-do families and from single-parent families staying in the nearby blocks of flats which predominantly comprised the one-roomers.
It was a great way to spend our day with the children; and revelling in the games with them. It also made us reminisced the days when we were small, playing happily with nary a worry.
It is a huge challenge to keep the kids off the streets and void decks as some of the schools are still having single session. The centre strives to engage the kids in wholesome activities; and in its best efforts not to let them turn into latchkey children and fall prey to juvenile delinquency. With counselling, encouragement, motivation and importantly, guidance, it is hope that each and every one of them can be given an equal opportunity to excel given the right environment during their growing-up school-going years.
It is indeed a humbling experience to do our bid to help.
