On 27 Feb 2013, one of our staff, Ms. Lian Lay Hui, joined a group of 48 medical doctors, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioners, dentists and volunteers to conduct a medical mission to Yangon, Myanmar. They were stationed at the Kaymar Orphanage where many of the children were victims of the Nargis Cyclone.

During the 3-day trip, a total of 3,000 people, comprising villagers, orphans and school children, were attended to and given medical or dental treatment.

Over the 3 days stay, the mission contingent has to rise as early by 5.00am to get ready for work. Ms. Lian was attached to the dentist team to assist in the sterilization of equipments. The hot humid weather was also a challenge and the team members were perspiring profusely. However, it was worth the effort when they were greeted with the grateful and delighted faces during the 3 days.

While the team may not be able to provide long term assistance to these villagers, it did provide them with a “ray” of hope as medical assistance was not easily available to them. It also served as a reminder to all of them who were there to help not to take things for granted and instead, to be grateful for all that they have.

There is an adage 施比受更为有福 and Ms. Lian is indeed grateful to be given this opportunity to serve.
